The Media Health tool helps ensure that all uploaded files and images on your website are properly synchronized with the Site Manager database. Over time, files may be added, removed, or restored from backups, which can occasionally cause inconsistencies between the server and the database.
The Media Health tool scans your media directories and reports any issues. It also provides repair tools that allow you to correct these issues quickly.
Where to Find the Media Health Tool
To access the Media Health page:
- Log into your Site Manager admin panel.
- Go to Administration.
- Select Disk Tools.
- Click Media Health.
The page will automatically scan your system and display the current health status of your media files.
Media Health Score
The Media Health score represents the overall consistency of your media library.
- 100% means everything is synchronized correctly.
- A lower score indicates that files or database records need attention.
Most issues can be resolved using the repair tools described below.
Types of Issues Detected
Missing Images
These are image records stored in the database that no longer exist on the server.
This situation can occur if:
- An image was deleted manually using FTP or file manager tools.
- The server was restored from a backup but the database was not.
- Files were removed outside of Site Manager.
The system will display the exact paths of the missing images.
Missing Files
These are file records in the database whose files no longer exist on the server.
This commonly happens when documents are deleted manually or when a partial backup is restored.
Untracked Files
These are files that exist on the server but are not registered in the Site Manager database.
This can happen when:
- Files were uploaded manually via FTP.
- A server backup restored files without restoring the database.
- Files were copied directly into the media directories.
Repair Tools
The Media Health page includes several tools that allow you to repair problems safely.
Reload Scan
This button reruns the media scan and refreshes the results on the page.
Use this after performing repairs to confirm that the system is fully synchronized.
Remove Broken Records
This tool removes database records for files or images that no longer exist on the server.
Important:
- This tool only removes database records.
- It does not delete any files from the server.
Use this when missing media entries appear in the report.
Register Untracked Files
This tool scans the server for files that exist but are not registered in the database and automatically adds them.
The system registers files according to their location:
- Files inside the /images/ directory are added to the Images database.
- Files inside the /files/ directory are added to the Files database.
This is especially useful if files were uploaded manually or restored from a server backup.
Typical Repair Process
If your Media Health score is below 100%, the following steps will usually resolve the issue:
- Click Remove Broken Records.
- Click Register Untracked Files.
- Click Reload Scan.
After these steps, the Media Health score should return to 100%.
Notes About Backups
Site Manager maintains references to uploaded media inside the database. If the server is restored from a backup or files are copied manually, the database and file system may temporarily become out of sync.
The Media Health tool is designed to quickly detect and repair these situations.
Best Practices
- Upload media using the Site Manager interface only.
- Do not delete or upload files directly through FTP.
- If you restore files from a backup, run the Media Health scan afterwards.
Running the Media Health check occasionally helps keep your website running smoothly and ensures all media files remain properly tracked.
