Overview
The Image Optimization tool scans your website’s image library and identifies images that are larger than the recommended dimensions. Oversized images increase disk usage and can slow down page loading for visitors.
This tool detects images that exceed the recommended maximum size of 1600 × 1600 pixels and allows you to automatically resize and optimize them.
You can access this tool by navigating to:
Administration → Disk Tools → Image Optimization
Optimization Score
The page displays an Optimization Score showing the percentage of images that already meet the recommended size guidelines.
- 100% means all images are properly optimized.
- A lower percentage means some images are larger than recommended.
- The score improves as oversized images are optimized.
This score provides a quick overview of how efficiently your images are stored and served on your website.
Large Images
The system checks all uploaded images and identifies those exceeding 1600 pixels in width or height.
These images are flagged because they:
- Consume unnecessary disk space
- Increase page load times
- Use more bandwidth when visitors access your website
The page may display examples of large images along with:
- Image dimensions
- File size
- The location of the file on your site
You can click an image link to open and inspect it directly.
Optimizing Images
If oversized images are detected, the system will display an Optimize Images button.
When clicked, Site Manager will automatically process all images that exceed the recommended size.
During optimization:
- Images larger than 1600 pixels are resized
- Files are recompressed to reduce disk usage
- Image quality is preserved while minimizing file size
This process may take several minutes depending on the number and size of images on your server.
Important Notes
- This process cannot be undone. Images are permanently resized and optimized.
- Large image libraries may take several minutes to complete.
- Running optimization periodically helps maintain fast website performance.
Best Practices
- Upload images close to their intended display size whenever possible.
- Avoid uploading very large photos directly from modern cameras or phones.
- Use the Image Optimization tool periodically to keep disk usage low.
- Optimized images improve both website speed and storage efficiency.
