For parishes and organizations using OWS mailing lists
OWS servers are configured to handle SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and all DNS records automatically.
You do not need to adjust DNS — OWS maintains all domain and authentication records.
If you experience delivery issues (bounces to Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, etc.), please check the following items:
1. Use Munge-From and DMARC-Safe Settings
All Mailman lists must use the following settings:
-
From Is List: Munge From
-
DMARC Moderation Action: Munge From
-
Digest options: Avoid HTML digests
-
Bounce processing: Enabled
If you created a new list and something isn’t working, contact us — we’ll configure it for you.
2. Avoid sending attachments larger than 5–8 MB
Large attachments cause silent failures or deferrals.
Best practice:
Upload bulletins, PDFs, photos, etc. to your website and send a link.
3. Make sure your subscriber list is healthy
Delivery problems often come from:
-
disabled or full mailboxes
-
outdated AOL/Comcast addresses
-
typos
-
people who marked previous messages as spam
-
users forwarding their mail incorrectly
Encourage subscribers to:
-
check their spam folder
-
add your list address to contacts
-
whitelist your domain
4. Only send from valid email accounts
Always send from an email hosted on your domain, not free addresses like:
-
gmail.com
-
hotmail.com
-
yahoo.com
Mailman will rewrite these, but some providers still rate them as lower-trust.
5. If you suspect a deliverability problem
Contact OWS support.
We will:
-
check your DMARC reports
-
verify SPF/DKIM/DMARC authentication
-
confirm Mailman rewrite behavior
-
check MailChannels logs
-
ensure nothing is being flagged for rate limits or content
6. OWS Maintains All DNS Records for You
If your domain uses NS1.ORTHODOXWS.COM and NS2.ORTHODOXWS.COM, then:
-
SPF is correct
-
DKIM is correct
-
DMARC is correct
-
MX is correct
DNS records should not be edited by clients.
If your DNS is hosted elsewhere (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, etc.), OWS will provide correct values upon request.
